Selecting Primitives

The Selection tool is active when no other tool is active. Using this tool specific primitives can be selected to be modified by other tools. For example to weld vertices together start by selecting the vertices to be welded and then activate the Weld tool.

Some tools incorporate the Selection tool as part of their View Panel interaction. For example when using the Translation tool, or any transformation tool, it is still possible to select primitives. This means it is not necessary to restart the Translation tool when you wish to select a different primitive to modify.

There are 4 different primitive types. Groups (a group of faces and vertices), faces, vertices and bones. The current primitive type that the Selection tool is selecting is modified using the Selection Mode buttons.

There are two methods for actually specifying the primitives to be selected. The primitive can simply be clicked or alternately rubber band selection can be used by clicking and dragging.

If the Ctrl key is held while specifying a primitive then the specified primitive will be added to the existing selection, or removed if it is part of the existing selection, instead of replacing the existing selection.

Selection Mode Specific Tools

Some tools are specific to a particular selection mode. The Sub Divide tools for example are specific to the face Selection Mode as it only applies to face selections.

These tools appear on the Tool Panel only when the corresponding Selection Mode is active.
